March 3, 1999 February 5, 1999 This article is taken from CCM Magazine's "Pop Life" in the February issue. Testify To Literacy "Yazzo City, Miss., native Michael Passons (of Avalon) hasn't forgotten his roots, and he's in fine company. Passons will be featured this spring in a series of ads for the Mississippi Press Association Literacy Campaign in which well-known native magnolias encourage people to read to their children. The state promotion, which has featured the Sesame Street veteran-turned-actor Morgan Freeman and Pat Fordice, Mississippi's first lady, is a part of a national literacy campaign, featuring the likes of another first lady, Barbara Bush. Avalon's new Brown Bannister-produced album, In A Different Light, is scheduled to hit shelves on March 23." ---- After receiving their Dove nominations, Avalon's response to the annoucement was: "I'm not sure how much a Dove Award matters in the work of the kingdom," said Avalon's Jody McBrayer, "but being acknowledged this way by our peers and the fans is such an awesome encouragement to us. We are especially honored to be a part of what God has done with the song, `Testify To Love.' It's impact has been far greater than we ever imagined." February 1, 1999 Here is my review of Avalon's brand new album, "In a Different Light": Let me start off my saying this album is definitley Different. And I would also say this album is put together In a Different Light. I love this album. Some songs really minister to me. When I first listened to this album it reminded me of Point Of Grace's new album "Steady On". For those POG fans, you know how it was a new look at Point Of Grace's music? It was fresh and enjoyable. That's what I thought of this album when I heard it, fresh and enjoyable... very much so. My personal favorite on this album is "In Not Of". It's a song that talks about how we can live in this world and not be of it. How we can love the people and give hope to the hopeless. "We are not like the world but we can love it... In It, Not Of It". I love this song. My other favorites are "Take You at Your Word", "In A Different Light", "Can't Live A Day", "If My People Pray", and "I'm Speechless". You all will enjoy this album. Be sure and get it the day it releases because if you try and get it any day later they may all be gone! The street date is March 23rd. Don't miss out on this album! This review is of my personal opinion. If you get the album and hate it, don't sue me. This is not a proffessional opinion, this is personal. ------------------------------ Avalon was nominated for 7 Dove Awards.
